Established in September 2005, Phelge Nepal Pvt Ltd is a social and business enterprise. It was born out of the commitment of its owner and Chief Executive Officer Armila C. Shakya to nurture and ethically market crafts that are produced from natural materials, using clean technologies and skills passed down through generations. Our crafts are made under strict quality supervision in factories that provide reasonable pay and healthy work places for their workers. About 5% of our net sales go to well-managed local charities working in the field of philanthropy for equitable justice and peace, women empowerment, girl child education, and peace development.

Armila Shakya has an academic background in Business Administration and has had several years of professional management experience with international development organisations, international and national non-government organisations, the private sector, and the government of the Philippines. Born in the Philippines, she has been living in Nepal for over two decades, with her Nepali husband Megh and 11-year old son Milind. She left the 9-5 work routine to follow her passion of making a difference in the lives of the less privileged in Nepal and preserving craft skills passed down through generations. Phelge Nepal is also committed to raising awareness in social entrepreneurship and sustainable production and consumption.

Phelge Nepal is based in Kathmandu, Nepal in the Himalayan region. The Himalayas are a cold place. Without good heating systems in their homes, the mountain people have had to depend on the fabrics they weave for warmth, for easy travel, and for survival. Nomads in particular have used simple but effective weaving methods to fulfil their need for fabrics that are strong, warm, as well as beautiful. These well honed skills have been passed on and improved on through generations to benefit lovers of handloom handwoven crafts that are a treasure to own.
